Ombudsman starts investigation into Schengen Information System
The National Ombudsman is starting an investigation into the manner in which the Immigration and Naturalisation Service flags people as 'undesireable aliens' in the Schengen Information System. This investigation is being carried out at the request of the Meijers Commission, which is the permanent Commission of Experts on the international law of aliens, refugee law and international criminal law. Recent Case: Help! I Don’t Have Internet Access
“2006 is the last year you will be able to complete your tax return by means of a Tax Authority diskette." This is what Mr Van Drimmelen reads in a letter from the Dutch Tax Authority, to his utter shock and annoyance. Mr Van Drimmelen has used this practical diskette for years for completing his tax return. He does not have an internet connection and it bothers him that apparently even the government takes it for granted that everyone in the Netherlands has access to the internet and knows how to work with it. Carelessness and Lack of Transparency in Police Force Gelderland-Midden
Although discrimination of police staff of foreign background does occur, it does not seem likely that the ethnic origin of three former employees of the regional police force of Gelderland-Midden was the reason for problems in their police career. The management , however, has not acted in a way that was sufficiently careful and transparent. The problems that the three former employees experienced indicate a deeper cause that requires extra awareness of the police management. This is the conclusion of the Dutch National Ombudsman, Alex Brenninkmeijer, who presented a report on the basis of complaints from these former employees. More...
